Camp Overview
FANA’s Colombian Cultural Camp (CCC) will feature four groups of campers designed to provide age-appropriate cultural, educational, and creative experiences.
The preschool group will attend a special half-day session designed for parents and children to participate in together. The elementary, middle school, and teen groups will attend five full days of camp focused on Colombian culture, Spanish language, arts, music, dance, physical education, leadership, character development, cultural pride, and hands-on learning experiences. Each group will be led by a camp counselor and Spanish educator who will guide students through daily activities while fostering teamwork, creativity, cultural appreciation, and confidence.
Los Monos: The Monkeys
- Ages 2–5 (Toddlers through Pre-K)
- Los Monos will attend a special half-day camp experience on Friday designed for young children and their caregivers. Campers will learn basic Spanish vocabulary through songs, movement, games, storytelling, and crafts inspired by Colombian culture. The CCC music and dance teachers will work together to teach a simple Spanish song with movements, and campers will have the opportunity to participate in the Friday Fiesta Performance alongside older campers.
Las Mariposas: The Butterflies
- Entering Kindergarten through 3rd Grade
- Las Mariposas will meet daily, Monday, July 20 through Friday, July 24. With more than 1,600 known butterfly species, Colombia is one of the most butterfly-diverse countries in the world, making the butterfly a perfect symbol for this group.
- Throughout the week, students will explore Colombia’s geography, traditions, music, dance, food, and Spanish language through engaging, hands-on activities. Daily lessons will include Colombian culture & food classes, where students will learn about different regions of Colombia while preparing simple traditional foods and desserts. Campers will also participate in art, music, dance, soccer, physical education activities, outdoor recreation, and daily rehearsals for the Friday Fiesta Performance.
- The Las Mariposas program encourages curiosity, creativity, healthy lifestyles, cultural pride, teamwork, and friendship while providing a fun introduction to the rich diversity of Colombia.
Los Jaguares: The Jaguars
- Entering 4th through 6th Grade
- With approximately 15,000 jaguars living throughout Central and South America, Colombia is home to one of the largest jaguar populations in the region. Strong, intelligent, and adaptable, the jaguar serves as a symbol of leadership and courage for this group.
- Throughout the week, Los Jaguares will expand their knowledge of Colombia's geography, regions, traditions, food, music, dance, and Spanish language through engaging, hands-on learning experiences.
- Students will participate in Colombian culture classes focused on vocabulary development, geography, history, cultural traditions, and regional foods.
- Campers will also prepare simple traditional Colombian recipes while learning about the origins and significance of each dish.
- In addition to cultural studies, students will participate in art, music, dance, soccer, physical education activities, team-building exercises, and daily rehearsals for the Friday Fiesta Performance.
- The Los Jaguares program promotes leadership, responsibility, healthy lifestyles, teamwork, cultural pride, and respect for diversity while encouraging students to become active learners and cultural pride.
Los Cóndores: The Condors
- Teens
- The Andean Condor is Colombia’s national bird and one of the largest flying birds in the world. Known for its strength, vision, and ability to soar great distances, the condor represents leadership, independence, and perseverance.
- Los Cóndores will participate in an advanced cultural and leadership program designed specifically for teens. Students will explore Colombia’s geography, history, traditions, language, food, music, dance, and cultural diversity through discussions, projects, and hands-on activities. Campers will prepare traditional Colombian foods while learning about regional customs, entrepreneurship, tourism, and the economic impact of Colombian culture.
- A unique component of the Cóndores program is the Business Creation and Leadership class, where students will learn basic entrepreneurship, budgeting, marketing, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Teens will also participate in art, music, dance, soccer, physical education activities, community-building projects, and daily rehearsals for the Friday Fiesta Performance.
- The Los Cóndores program encourages leadership, cultural pride, creativity, confidence, communication skills, and entrepreneurial thinking.
Rules of Love, Respect, and Community
At FANA, we strive to create a positive, welcoming, and culturally enriching environment where every camper feels valued, respected, and included. We believe that every child and teen has unique gifts to share and that together we create a community built on kindness, friendship, and cultural pride.
All campers and families are asked to agree to the following expectations:
Respect and Kindness
- All campers are expected to treat fellow campers, volunteers, teachers, staff, and guests with kindness and respect. We celebrate both our similarities and our differences and encourage campers to support, encourage, and include one another.
- Older campers are expected to serve as positive role models for younger campers by demonstrating leadership, good sportsmanship, responsibility, and respect. Bullying, teasing, exclusion, gossip, disrespectful language, or behavior that creates division within the camp community will not be tolerated.
Teamwork and Community
- FANA is a community where everyone belongs. Campers are encouraged to work together, help one another, and contribute to creating a safe and welcoming environment. We believe that every camper matters and has an important role in our camp family.
Cell Phones and Electronics
- Cell phones and electronic devices should be left with parents whenever possible. If brought to camp, phones will be collected by the Program Director at arrival and stored safely until dismissal.
- Cell phone use during camp hours will be limited to communication with parents, guardians, or emergency contacts when necessary.
Substances
- The use, possession, or distribution of illegal or illicit substances, vaping or smoking is strictly prohibited at all FANA programs and events.
Photos and Media
- Photos and videos of campers participating in activities may be taken throughout camp. These images may be shared with families and may be used by FANA for educational, promotional, or community outreach purposes, unless otherwise indicated by a parent or guardian.
Our Camp Promise
At FANA, we choose kindness, respect, responsibility, teamwork, and cultural pride. Together, we create a camp where everyone feels seen, valued, safe, and loved.
